From Passion to Profession: My Journey in Floristry
My love for flowers began with my Uncle Albert, a devoted rose enthusiast. As a child, I spent countless joyful hours “helping” him care for his vast collection—hundreds of exquisite blooms, each nurtured with precision. Years later, my daughter’s request for me to grow and arrange flowers for her wedding became the spark that ignited my floristry career
Driven by my passion for learning and self-challenge, I eagerly accepted her request—despite having no set wedding date at the time! However, balancing my full-time finance career meant that finding local floristry tuition was a challenge. After much searching, I found an experienced florist and business owner in Worcester who guided me through a year of intensive training, leading up to my first wedding commission. That experience opened my eyes to the depth and artistry of the floral industry.
Determined to refine my craft further, I enrolled at the newly established British Academy of Floral Art in Exeter, where I pursued formal training over several years. Achieving Level 3, Level 4, and finally my Level 5 City & Guilds certification, I proudly earned the esteemed title of British Master Florist. During this transformative period, I built my career as a freelance wedding florist, and in 2017, I opened my own shop in Great Torrington.
Our Next Chapter: A Purpose-Built Studio
Exciting developments are underway! We are currently constructing a dedicated floristry studio—a permanent block building designed for creativity, craftsmanship, and expansion. More than just a workspace, this studio will be the foundation for delivering even greater floral artistry and bespoke designs to my clients.
